Meredith's First Haircut!

Yep, we did. We cut her hair.

Our little four month old needed a trim. Crazy, but true.

Meri has hair, lots of it. And it seems to grow at a faster rate than her body does. Hair and fingernails, this girl knows how to grow them. It was starting to look a little, well, crazy. Her hair is pretty straight (even though in these pictures it appears otherwise) and sticks out in all directions. It's too short to do anything other than clip it to the side with a bow, so we decided to trim it so (hopefully) it will grow in a little more evenly.

After a shampoo (regular little salon at the Weldy house tonight!), she was ready to go!
Praying? Pleading for mercy? She was a little confused at what we were doing.
Aunt Hannah is visiting this weekend, so provided moral support for me and distraction for Meredith. Pretty scary having an amateur hacking away at your hair!
A few snips later, it was much improved! Meri likes it!
Less of a mullet for sure:)

Otto the Hairstylist

Just when I thought I couldn't love this little guy anymore, he decides that he should style his own hair. This is what he came up with....Seriously, how cute is he?
Almost like Ace Ventura, Pet Detective's, distant cousin, right?
When he aimed the hair dryer at me I knew it was time to run!
He proudly marched into the donut shop**, ordered his 'cake', and then asked the lady in line behind us for a hug after telling her all about doing his hair using the comb he brought with us for illustration.
And I'm not letting the sweet smile fool me, I'm pretty sure the rest of our day looks something like this:) But you only live once right? We plan on enjoying it, one crazy hair day at a time!
**Mom, they were donut holes, and he had already eaten a bowl of oatmeal and a glass of milk. Plus, Chris has been sick and really buried in school work so they were really for him...kinda. ;)

Saturday Morning Babies

I tried to get a few shots of our growing girl this morning--she is getting more animated by the day, backwards bunny hopping all over the living room, so pictures are becoming more difficult. I got one that I was happy with before my little helper decided it was pig pile on Meredith time. :)

Dinner at Holly Lake

When we were visiting East Texas last weekend, my parents and younger sibling, Israel, Michael, and Abbey, came to Holly Lake and had dinner with us. Otto was pumped to see his people to say the least.
My Mom even brought some duckings for Otto. See why he gets so excited about seeing family? :)
While dinner was finishing up, Otto got to explore the arcade and playground. He was running on no nap and did really well, this next picture shows how clearly he was suffering.
Abbey manned the camera:)
Remember this picture? Same chair but now he's so much bigger and has a sister!

Happy Birthday Leo!

Last weekend we made aquick trip to East Texas to celebrate Leo's birthday! Leo is Chris' best friend Shawn's dad, and he and Sonia were like a second family to Chris when he was growing up. From the stories I've heard Shawn and Chris were pretty much inseparable and were always at one or the other's house.
Leo and Sonia!
Happy Birthday Leo! His cake might have been missing an Otto size chunk:-/ He pounced not just once but twice! before Leo could blow out the candles.
Bella and Otto! They played so, so well together, Bella is just a doll and Otto has been talking about her non stop ever since.
Meredith got to meet everyone for the first time, including Shawn and Jessica who flew in from California to surprise Leo.
Chris and Shawn, and their 'man' faces.
They took Otto on his first boat ride around the pond, my little guy is turning into such a big kid!
The whole group! Ryan and Otto have the right idea--they weren't distracted from the delicious gumbo by the picture taking.
Happy Birthday again Leo! So glad we got to celebrate with you!

Otto's First Trip to the Dentist

This morning Otto had his very first trip to the dentist. I think I was more excited than he was;) He woke up talking about going to the dentist to catch bugs in his hands. I think he got a little confused when I was explaining about how they were going to check his teeth for germs. :) Luckily, the overhead florescent lighting above the chairs had decorative covers with butterflies on them or I might have been in the dog house.

He was ready to go long before it was time, and kept telling me that he was excited to go the the dentist. When we finally got there he marched right in like he owned the place and said 'Hi!' to everyone in the waiting room. A couple of teenage boys waiting to have their braces tightened were very impressed with his abilities to captivate the ladies; he made a beeline for the only girl in the room and proceeded to become best friends.
No fear, he climbed right up into the chair. He wasn't to keen on letting the hygienist brush his teeth and was too impressed with all the equipment to show her how he does it on his own so we went the 'happy visit' route.
Just chillin'
The dentist did a mirror check and didn't see any issues. After painting on a fluoride varnish we were set to go!
In the car with his prize for a good check-up!
We had lunch at Chickfila to celebrate a successful visit and Otto sat in the booth like a big kid. Makes me a tiny bit sad that he's so big already.  While there, he made a point to tell everyone, 'Dentist! Cavities!'. We haven't even talked about cavities and the dentist didn't either, he must have overheard the conversation about the little girl in the next chair who had a cavity.

I didn't tell the dental staff that I was a hygienist once upon a time, because let's face it, it gets awkward if they know, and I was totally checking out the practice to make sure it's where we want to take our kids. There weren't any red flags and they were very kind to our little guy so we'll go back in six months for a cleaning!

Otto Meets a Toad

We discovered a little toad in the back yard the other night. Otto was impressed and immediately tried to pick it up, only to be surprised by it's jumping skills.

Daddy stepped in and helped him catch it. His reaction is just too cute.

Minky Day!

Yesterday my parents were in the metroplex. My Dad had a work commitment and my Mom rode up with him. We drove over and kidnapped her for the afternoon--we hit up IKEA and the Frisco Mall. Shopping and hanging out with my Mom? Yes please!
These two really resemble each other in my opinion.
Meri and Otto love getting to see their grandparents as much as I do and had a great day. Otto took a twenty minute power nap in the car and did really well for running on fumes. Meredith napped a little in the stroller and was also very content for being off schedule. I have really, really good kids, pretty much hit the jackpot. (Take that however you want, but my babies are the best there are hands down.)
We took our time wandering through IKEA and found some great goodies. I love their pillow inserts and got a few of the rectangular ones to add to the couch.
We even tried the food for the first time. Not bad!
After IKEA we walked through the mall next door. Otto spotted the carousal and thought riding it would be a great idea. And so we did. Twice. (Made me woozie!) He loved it and kept patting his horse's neck with a "Good job" and saying "Otto trotting!".
He looks fully five years old in this picture! *sob*
A little side note: While we were out Otto kept saying, 'Oh my God." A lot. As in "Oh my God, that's cute!" while we were shopping for clothes in Gap. Now, we don't like to practice taking the Lord's name in vain (my Mom was horrified, sorry Mom!),  and while I say, 'Oh my goodness' and 'Goodness gracious', quite a bit I try not to say 'Oh my God'. Chris isn't an exclamatory person (ha!) so I doubt it's coming from him. It was puzzling where he was picking the phase up from, and I was about ready to admit guilt when another shopper walked up to the stroller and, right in front of Otto, exclaimed, "OMG! What a cute baby!". There you go. Ugh! You can't filter strangers! And our little parrot mimics everything.

When we returned Minky we got to say hi to MG. Can you tell this little girl is teething? Always with the hands in her mouth.

Baby Laughs!

Warm fuzzies for all!

This little girl is very ticklish. Pair that with her already cheerful demeanor and we are hearing lots of happy giggles these days. Possibly the most adorable sound ever.  Otto loves making her smile and laugh. Today I even heard him telling her, 'Hi MereMae, smile (with) teeth!'.

Dallas Heart Walk 2012

This is my 400th post. Dang skippy, that makes me feel like a legitimate blogger.

Yesterday, very very early in the morning, we drove from Fort Worth to downtown Dallas to participate in the largest Heart Walk in the country. The company that Chris works for was the lead sponsor and Chris had joined his boss's team. I had no idea it was such a large event...for some reason I thought it was just going to be Oncor employees. Ha! There were over 50,000 people there! Shows exactly how early we had to get up to get there on time, clearly my mind wasn't quite awake yet.  The weather was gorgeous, with highs only in the mid eighties.

This was right as the walk started. This was the view in front of us:
And behind:
People as far as you could see!

Both of the little guys were total troopers, very cheerful for being woken up and hour and a half earlier than normal. Otto somehow made it through the day on a twenty minute nap.
Meredith caught a few naps in the stroller, and was her normal happy self when she was awake. We continue to be amazed at her ability to nap in public, completely different from round one for sure.
Otto didn't slow down all day. There was so much going on and he wasn't going to miss any of it! After the walk, we went to Oncor's headquarters where they were hosting a lunch with bounce houses and frozen yogurt, pretty much Otto's definition of awesome.
And today we tried a new church (still church hunting) and Meredith slept through the service in the Ktan. Seriously, Chris and I are so impressed by her mellow personality. We love her brother's hand's on approach to life and wouldn't change him in the slightest, but she is definitely a lower maintenance baby by comparison.
After afternoon naps we took a little walk around the school down the streets track. Meredith rode in the stroller like a big kid for the first time!
She was pretty impressed with herself and did a pretty good job at staying in a semi upright position. Otto was very proud of her and insisted on marching her around the track.

Meredith Four Month Stats

Meredith had her four month check-up today. I've been looking forward to this appointment so we could continue to track her growth. While my sister was in town she gave us some exercise to added to our feeding routine to help strengthen Meredith's latch and oral muscles. We have been really focusing on getting her to eat more at each feeding and I am happy to report that it is working!

Weight: 13 pounds, 11 ounces (48th percentile)
Height: 25 1/4 inches
Head Circumference: 16 1/4 inches

That's up from the 30th percentile a month ago! Positive progress! Yay!

The pediatrician is happy with her progress and didn't even mention adding additional calories through food. I am ecstatic. What we are doing is making a difference, thank you Hannah for the help!

We are going to continue what we are doing, and go back in for another weight check (actually we go in for more shots, slow poke schedule, the weight check is a perk) at five months. Hopefully things continue to trend in a positive direction.

Yay Meri! So glad for a happy visit.

(And a side note. On the way home we made a stop at a thrift store (we were in a celebratory mood and thrifting is our thing) where Otto had his first public toilet experience. Thankfully the bathroom was very clean. Big day for the Weldy kids!)

Happy Labor Day!

Happy Labor Day everyone! We are enjoying our three day weekend. Chris' parents and sister (and our little bitty nephew!) came to visit this weekend and we loved getting to spend some time with them.

Nana, Papa, and the munchkins.
Aunt Lala, her cute little bump, and Meredith.
So glad we got to see you!

Meredith is Four Months Old!

Seriously y'all, this is going by way too fast. Everyone says it, I know, but it's true! How is she already a third of the way through her first year?! Crazy stinkin' nuts.

She is growing, but at a slower rate than her brother did, just this week she moved up to a size two diaper. And in the past few days she has been eating a little better too--thanks to some exercises that Aunt Hannah shared. She even had a twenty-five ounce day a few days ago! BIG deal around here.
Everyday she is more fun. She now is a pro at playing on her play mat and can grab and shake the toys. This month she started rolling and laughing, and is convinced that she can do a sit up. I have to admit that her form is much better than mine;)
Daddy is still one of her very favorite people, but Otto is creeping up the list. She is absolutely enamored with him and doesn't mind a bit when he squishes her in an attempt to give her a hug.
Her latest trick is standing! Tada!
And she is pretty proud of herself when she pushes up:)
We love, LOVE this happy girl and are so glad that she came to live at our house!
